In order to understand the beach water quality and provide reference for the public, the EPA has been conducting monitoring of domestic beaches since 1999. The monitoring items were increased from three items in 1999 to twelve items at present: water temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen (DO), pH, turbidity, ammonia nitrogen, nitrite nitrogen, phosphate , P043-, silicate, coliform group, and enterococci. Monitoring locations were adjusted yearly. According to the monitoring results, the EPA would regularly release this information through media and the Internet for public reference.
