Monitoring Purpose
The most direct benefit of water monitoring is to provide relevant information on water quality, allowing everyone to acknowledge the current status of the water environment. Water monitoring serves to arouse the public’s concern for the protection of the water environment and ensures safe use and water accessibility. Aside from this, the designed water monitoring practice can also help compile a historical record of the changing trends of water quality, assessing the effectiveness of pollution remediation. It is regarded as an important reference in developing strategies to prevent water pollution. Currently, the purpose of the water monitoring routine for domestic water executed by the E.P.A. is to provide the public with water quality information. The specific benefits include:
  1.Quantitative description of environment quality
Measuring the pollutant of water  directly, including physical, chemical and biological information and offering correct, reliable data for describing the condition of the water quality. Then comparing to the classification of water quality standards, it could be utilized as reference for assessing water quality achievement ratio.
2.The establishment of environmental background data
The establishment of recognizing long-term water quality variation trends of various regions could serve as the reference for assessing the performance of water pollution remediation. It also could provide regular quantitative description as basis of taking appropriate countermeasure of improving water quality.
