Achievements from participating in WWMC program over the years
The “World Water Monitoring Challenge” was jointly founded in 2003 by the International Water Association (IWA), America's Clean Water Foundation (ACWF) and the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). The goal is to educate and engage citizens in the protections of the world’s water resource. The program was named as “World Water Monitoring Day” and conducted on October 18. In 2006, the program duration was expanded from September 18 to October 18, furthermore in 2012, the program runs from March 22 until December 31. The founder announced the adoption of “World Water Monitoring Challenge”as the new name at the same time. Because many participants monitor their waterways year-round and the new name helps make that protecting point more clearly. In the years from 2003 to 2015, there were respectively 24, 50, 47, 39, 43, 70, 81, 85, 77, 66, 51, 41 and 31 countries participated in the program. The Environment Protection Administration has been inviting the public to become involved in the program for nine consecutive years. Every year, more than thousands of people were taking part in water monitoring. During 2015, about 30,000 people participated in this activity, and monitored water on 200 sites in Taiwan.
